Catocala cerogama occurs in deciduous and mixed forests and woodlands of eastern North America south to North Carolina and Missouri. The wingspan is 65-81 mm. The forewing is brownish-gray with pale bands; the hindwing is mostly black with a narrow yellow band. The caterpillar feeds on Basswood (Tilia americana) and Red Maple (Acer rubrum). C. cerogama flies from July to October.
